Mayor:
A mayor is the chief executive of a city, town, or borough, and their purpose is to manage the day-to-day operations of the local government :
• Enforce laws: The mayor is responsible for ensuring that local laws are enforced.
• Implement policies: The mayor carries out policies set by the council.
• Manage operations: The mayor oversees the day-to-day operations of the local government, including the supervision of employees and officers.
• Prepare budget: The mayor prepares and presents the budget to the municipal council.
• Serve as a figurehead: The mayor may serve as a ceremonial figurehead for the community.
• Represent the community: The mayor may serve as a key representative for the community at the regional and national level.
City Commissioner:
A city commissioner's purpose is to set policies and provide leadership for the city they represent :
• Represent the public: City commissioners represent the public interest and promote a quick response to residents' issues.
• Set policies: City commissioners establish policies, rules, and goals for the city, including tax rates, water and wastewater rates, and other fees.
• Adopt laws: City commissioners adopt local laws and ordinances.
• Appoint officials: City commissioners appoint the city manager, city attorney, and members of city boards and committees.
• Manage growth: City commissioners manage growth and land use.
